Table Mountain Expedition 2014-05-02 to 2014-05-04

Our expedition started on Friday at van der Stel Station where we waited for the train to take us to Cape Town

After arriving at Cape Town station we had to find the MyCiti bus station and find the correct bus to get us to Kloofnek. Once we had bought our tickets we had to find the correct platform were our bus would pick us up.

It was fun riding on the bus and reading the names of the stops.

We got off at Kloofnek bus stop

 

 

After getting off the bus we found the start of the pipe track hiking path and started hiking.

At the turn off to Kasteelspoort

We found the turn off to Kasteelspoort and started the uphill.

 

 

 

 

We spotted some proteas along the trail.

but the hike was tough!

It was great to reach the hut and everybody started making supper! At sunset everybody went outside to watch the sunset! As always the sunset was awesome!

Later on the stars came out and we spotted Orion and the moon!

On Saturday we explored a portion of the Back table of Table Mountain that people don’t normally get to in search of a geocache called Defending the cave man.

We all got back to the Scout hut safely.

On Sunday morning we headed down the mountain via Nursery Ravine in the pouring rain and we were soaking wet when we got to the car park!

The weekend was a great adventure!

 

Here are the routes we travelled by train and bus as well as the routes we hiked.

The routes we hiked in blue, purple and red.

  • ┬áThe blue line is the route along the pipe track and up Kasteelspoort.
  • The Purple line is route we hike to the defending the caveman cache and back.
  • The red line is the route we hiked down to Kirstenbosch.
